In honor of his 100th birthday, local historical societies are looking back at President John F. Kennedy's time in Westchester, when he lived in Bronxville.

"Growing Up Kennedy In Westchester: The Bronxville Years (1921-1941)" will take place at Cortlandt Town Hall Saturday at 2 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Yorktown Historical Society, Croton Friends of History and the Van Cortlandtville Historical Society and presented by historian Anthony Czarnecki.

The family lived on a 5.5 acre compound on Pondfield Road in Bronxville when the future president was 12 years old.

Although he spent much of his time attending the Riverdale Country School in the Bronx, Kennedy was a member of the local Boy Scout Troop 2 and attended dance classes at the Gramatan Ballroom.

Kennedy returned to Bronxville as a senator in 1958 for Ted Kennedy's wedding to Bronxville native Joan Bennett. The reception was held at Siwanoy Country Club on Pondfield Road.

Czarnecki will discuss how their Bronxville home and social life in Westchester provided a family-centered experience during the formative years of the Kennedy siblings, using newly-discovered materials from local archives, family documents from the JFK Presidential Library and recent memoirs.
