Flames At College In Westchester Blamed On Trash Compactor, Firefighters Say
A fire at a college in Westchester County was the result of a trash compactor going up in flames, firefighters said. On Tuesday, Jan. 3 around 2:40 p.m., firefighters were sent to SUNY Purchase College to respond to a reported transformer fire, according to the Purchase Fire Department. Once there, firefighters saw that the trash compactor at the north loading dock was on fire, and quickly began working to put it out. Residents Displaced After Fire Breaks Out At Apartment Complex In Westchester
Numerous residents and animals had to evacuate an apartment complex in Westchester County after a fire broke out. On Tuesday, Nov. 22 around 5:30 p.m., firefighters responded to an apartment complex in Harrison at 3 Calvert St. after its fire alarm went off and discovered a fire in the building, according to the Harrison Fire Department. The United States has filed a lawsuit against a Westchester County municipality and its fire department, alleging that they discriminated and retaliated against a female firefighter who reported that a male senior firefighter had harassed and stalked her. A volunteer firefighter from Westchester County has died at the age of 36. Christopher Colasacco died on Wednesday, Jan. 19, according to his obituary. He was a graduate of Harrison High School and worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Town of Harrison. IDs Released For Husband, Wife Killed In Chain-Reaction Westchester Crash
The identities have been released of the victims of a double-fatal, chain-reaction crash involving five vehicles in Westchester. It happened around 8:25 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19 on I-287 eastbound, in the town of Harrison, between Exit 10 (Purchase/Port Chester) and Exit 11 (Port Chester/Rye), state police said.
