385 Families Left Without Hot Water, Cooking Gas After Leak At Yonkers Apartment Complex
Officials, housing authority staff, and business owners will be handing emergency supplies to hundreds of residents of a Westchester apartment complex left without cooking gas and hot water as a result of a leak. The gas leaks were discovered by Con Edison on Wednesday, Aug. 28 in systems servicing the Palisade Towers apartment complex in Yonkers on Schroeder Street, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano said on Thursday, Aug. 29. The incident happened on Saturday, March 23, when damage was found at a home in Pelham Manor on Shore View Circle, according to village officials. A mother and a son managed to escape an intense Hudson Valley house fire that was gas-fed. A Westchester elementary school had to be temporarily evacuated when the smell of gas was reported in the area. Colonial Elementary School in Pelham was evacuated as a precaution at approximately noon on Friday, Sept. 27, when there was reports of the smell of gas near the building. A dog on the loose in Westchester showed why the animal is “man’s best friend.” The Tuckahoe Police Department received a call at approximately 3:45 on Wednesday, Feb. 6, of a loose, barking dog on Fairview Avenue. A gas leak has closed a roadway in Port Chester as police, fire and Con Ed employees work to find the source of the leak. The fire department has been on the scene on Ellendale Avenue for more than three hours trying to locate the source of the leak that is causing a strong odor of gas in the area, said the Port Chester Police. YONKERS, N.Y. - A busy roadway in Yonkers has been temporarily shut down as crews investigate a gas leak. Due to a gas leak, Caryl Avenue has been closed between Elinor Place and South Broadway in Yonkers, according to police in the 3rd Precinct. Crews are currently on scene investigating.
