A Westchester woman will spend time in prison for shaking and bouncing a 3-month-old baby while employed as a nanny, causing him to suffer a seizure.
White Plains resident Nija Woodbury, age 23, was sentenced to six months in prison on Monday, Feb. 5 for assaulting a baby in her care while employed as a nanny, the Westchester County District Attorney's Office announced.
According to the DA's Office, at around 5 p.m. on Jan. 10, 2023, Woodbury had been employed as a nanny for a family from Mount Pleasant.

A Westchester teaching assistant has been charged with allegedly endangering the welfare of a child by pushing him to the ground.
Suleiman Rabadi, age 36, of Yonkers, was arrested on Wednesday, Aug. 2 in Yonkers.
According to Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah, Rabadi was employed as a teaching assistant at the Biondi School, a kindergarten to 12th-grade special education school in Yonkers, when the incident took place on Thursday, March 9.

A Westchester County man has been sentenced for repeated sexual conduct with a child and rape.
On Tuesday, Oct. 25, 48-year-old Virgilio Cruz was sentenced to two consecutive 25-year sentences, 50 years in total, for his crimes, the maximum sentence available, according to Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah.

A former diving coach in the Hudson Valley is facing federal charges, years after he allegedly transported teenagers across state lines for sex.
Victor Byrne, age 56, who formerly coached competitive divers in Rockland County, was arrested Wednesday, Aug. 31, in Orlando, Florida.
Federal prosecutors said Byrne transported a 16-year-old victim from Cape Cod, Massachusetts to Rockland County to engage in illegal sexual activity in July 2006.
In February 2008, he transported another 16-year-old from New Jersey to Rockland County, again to engage in illegal sex, prosecutors said.
