Yonkers Tennis Youth Attends National Camp

YONKERS, N.Y. – The United States Tennis Association has bestowed an honor on 13-year-old Yonkers tennis player Jonathan Agyeno.

Agyeno will attend the 28th Annual USTA/NJTL Tennis Leadership Camp in Minneapolis on the University of Minnesota campus from Monday to Friday. The USTA holds the camp for tennis players ages 12 to 14 who participate in National Junior Tennis and Learning chapters throughout the country.

Dante Brown of the Harlem Junior Tennis & Education Program nominated Agyeno for the opportunity.

Instructors at the all-expenses paid camp lead the participants in individual drills, physical fitness exercises, correct nutrition and sportsmanship. The youths will train for four to seven hours each day and will listen to a presentation from guest speaker Jon Rydberg, a U.S. Men’s wheelchair tennis player and 2012 Paralympian. He also volunteers packing books for the “Books for Africa” program.

The USTA/NJTL camp began in 1984. Arthur Ashe, Charlie Pasarell and Sheridan Snyder founded the USTA/NJTL network in 1969, and the organization now encompasses more than 600 non-profit chapters that serve more than 250,000 youths throughout the United States.
