Yonkers Hoop Legend Bernard Toone Featured In Marquette Film 'Untucked'

YONKERS, N.Y. -- Legendary Yonkers basketball star Bernard Toone, an all-state player at Gorton High School in the mid 1970s who went on to play for NCAA champion Marquette University and the NBA Philadelphia 76ers, is currently featured in the ESPN "30 For 30" documentary film "Untucked".

Toone, a 6-foot-7 superstar forward, was a member of Marquette's 1977 National Championship team in Hall of Fame coach Al McGuire's final season. McGuire allowed star player Bo Ellis to design a set of unconventional uniforms, including one that had "untucked" jersey tops..

Marquette alumnus Danny Pudi directed the film, which can be seen on grantland.com or on the ESPN "30 For 30" site. The film details how the Marquette team revolutionized sports uniforms.

Toone, now 57, lives in Yonkers but could not be reached for comment. He averaged 18.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game and was named a fourth team All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches as a senior at Marquette before playing for thr 76ers in 1979-80 then in Europe from 1980-83.
