Smith, a captain for the soccer team that set school records for wins this fall, is scoring 21 points per game for the 2-4 Blue Devils and looking forward to helping her team to a postseason playoff spot.
"(Amanda) is a natural, proven scorer who wants to win and lets everyone around her know it," Saunders coach J.R. Volpe said. "She's a captain who gets her point across and backs it up. A pain at times (like all stars), but a joy to coach."
Smith, seems to enjoy the give and take of being a leader and a voice for her coach on the court, said she hopes the Blue Devils can build some momentum as the season goes on.
"As a four-year player for Coach Volpe, expectations get higher each year," Smith said. "We've lost players each year and as captain I expect the team to try to do the best we can. We lost in sectionals last year and would like to go further this time. We have been working hard each and every day and we have a very good coaching staff."
