North Yonkers Knights Host Tackle Football Academy

YONKERS, N.Y. – The North Yonkers Knights Football and Cheer program will host its second annual Tackle Academy for registered players on Aug. 4 at Lennon Park at Lake and Park avenues in Yonkers.

Jerry Thompson, president of the North Yonkers Knights Football program, has joined forces with former NFL defensive line coach Thurmond Moore to provide the five-hour Tackle Academy to the Knights' players, with special emphasis on concussion prevention and safe tackling techniques. The session will run from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The techniques taught at the Tackling Academy have been implemented in the United Football League and the National Football League and at the college and high school levels. The intent of the academy is to teach proper footwork and tackling techniques that will help prevent injuries.

Coach Moore has extensive experience on the defensive side of the ball, including coaching at a dozen collegiate football programs, five NFL stops, one United Football League campaign and two NFL Europe seasons. He also coached members of the 2006, 2007 and 2009 AFC Pro Bowl squads – Indianapolis Colt lineman Dwight Freeney and Arizona Cardinal, Miami Dolphin and former Pittsburgh Steeler Joey Porter – as collegians.

The North Yonkers Knights Football and Cheer program is at 223 Ridge Ave. in Yonkers. For more information or to register for the program, call Jerry Thompson at 914-423-9736 or visit www.northyonkersknights.com.
