Cross Hill Academy and Robert C. Dodson seventh-grade grade students and Sarah Lawrence College Center for the Urban River at Beczak (CURB) joined on Thursday, May 1, at Beczak.
The 30 seventh-graders donned "waders and an investigative spirit" to explore the Hudson River during a seining activity in collaboration with CURB, according to a press release.
The event was part of a nine-week after-school STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) environmental program at CURB which "infuses interactive activities into the focuses of inquiry-based science, scientific research, math skills and research writing," according to the release.
Other Yonkers schools participating in the program are Enrico Fermi School, Eugenio Maria de Hostos Microsociety School, Scholastic Academy and Yonkers Middle/High School.
"Students who participate in the after-school program have the opportunity to continue the curriculum during the Summer STEM Environmental Program, an extension of the partnership between the District and Sarah Lawrence College," according to the release.
