YONKERS, N.Y. The Yonkers City School District is getting a boost from state lawmakers.
Yonkers was one of two Westchester County school districts that learned Tuesday they will receive bullet aid, money that is handed out in addition to regular state funding.
Yonkers will receive $1.75 million. The other district, Mount Vernon, will receive $350,000.
Yonkers school officials said $1 million of the extra money has been designated for general expenses, and the remaining $750,000 will be used to maintain the varsity sports program.
The money was taken from a pool of $25 million that is distributed by state Assembly and Senate members in an attempt to even funding inequities for schools, parent-teacher associations and other education groups across the state.
