YONKERS, N.Y. -- Yonkers Schools Chief Administrative Officer Joseph Brachitta has abruptly retired from his position as investigations into a $55 million deficit over the last two school budgets continue, according to LoHud.com.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano announced that Superintendent Bernard Pierorazio would retire by Feb. 16 after the alleged misappropriated state aid was discovered. Pierorazio has reportedly not confirmed independently that he will retire and, by city laws, he does not report to the mayor.

Brachitta, whose office oversaw the budgeting process, has served in his position since 2006.
