Yonkers Partners in Education Launches New After-School Center

YONKERS, N.Y. -- Yonkers Partners in Education recently launched the new state-of-the-art after-school center YPIE College Zone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“Our mission at YPIE is more than just getting students to college. It is about igniting passions, instilling confidence, and providing inspiration and motivation for success in college and in life,” said Sam Wallis, YPIE’s program director.

The zone promotes a college-going culture with academic support, 21st-century skills development and character building.

Attending students are called YPIE Scholars and receive a volunteer graduation coach to support their high school successes. YPIE Scholars attend twice a week from ninth through 12th grades.

The College Zone's Swag Store uses a token economy system whereby students are awarded Scholar Dollars for displaying urgency, grit, growth mindset, mindfulness and more. The Scholar Dollars can then be traded for swag.
