Each day this week, The Yonkers Daily Voice will take a look at the valedictorians and salutatorians of each high school in the Yonkers Public School District.

Roosevelt High School: Valedictorian
Gianni Almanzar is the valedictorian of Roosevelt High School, with a weighted grade point average of 97.2.
She has taken one Advanced Placement, seven College Link, and six Century Honors courses. Almanzar is a member of the National Honor Society, the Superintendent’s Honor Society and the Principal’s List and received first place in the Jobs Skills Open for the Skills USA Competition.
She has held a variety of leadership positions including Captain of the Varsity Volleyball Team and Junior Class President. Her extracurricular activities include Roosevelt’s Literary Magazine, STACK, Guitar Club, Architectural Project, and Skills USA.
Almanzar has volunteered in the Oncology Department of Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital and the school’s Breast Cancer Walk-a-Thon and bake sale to raise funds for cancer research. She also volunteered as a tutor, translator and babysitter.
Almanzar has been accepted to Manhattan College, St. John’s University, Manhattanville College, University of Bridgeport, Nyack College, St. Thomas Aquinas College, the State University of New York at Albany and Alfred, and the City University of New York colleges: Baruch, City, and Lehman. She will attend Manhattan College and major in Biology.
Salutatorian
Lana Williams is the salutatorian for Roosevelt High School, with a weighted grade point average of 94.6.
She is a member of the National Honor Society and Gateway Academy and has taken one College Algebra course, six College Link courses, and six Century Honors classes. Williams won a variety of honors, including the 2012 Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics, Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award, Superintendent’s Honor Society, Principal’s List and High Honor Roll.
She also volunteered as an assistant to Roosevelt faculty and was active in the school’s Recycling Club. In her spare time, Williams enjoys the guitar, karate, dramatic arts, and recycling.
She has been accepted to Manhattanville College, Manhattan College and the City University of New York colleges: Baruch, Brooklyn, City, Queens and Staten Island. Williams will attend Manhattan College. She is currently undecided about her major.
