YONKERS, N.Y. Yonkers: Say hello to your new logo.
A sunny portrait of the citys scenic Hudson River skyline has been selected by residents and city officials to be the new logo of Yonkers. The artwork, created by city resident Karen Broschart, beat out more than two dozen designs submitted in the YoLogo contest announced in the spring.
This contest brought in the creative minds of our city to showcase their pride in Yonkers by being part of our rebranding and revitalization efforts, Mayor Mike Spano said in a statement. I want to thank and congratulate all who participated. We received some really great designs that truly reflect the diversity and vibrancy of Yonkers.
Launched in May, the YoLogo contest asked residents to come up with ideas for a logo that were reflective of the city's rich history, culture and natural beauty.
Residents answered the call, submitting 27 designs that ranged from a sketch of the Yonkers pier to an outline of City Hall to a dove floating above green and black lettering that reads Yonkers: The beginning of a new day.
Each potential logo was posted for public vote on the city's Facebook page, with the three designs receiving the most likes to be put before the City Council for a vote. On Tuesday, council members unanimously chose Broscharts design, a scenic view of the city with sun rays peeking over the skyline.
The new logo will now appear alongside the citys official seal, which features George Washington, and on the City of Yonkers website, social media sites and other city communications and promotional items.
Yonkers is such a beautiful city and I wanted to create a logo that displayed its idyllic location and most recognizable features, both historic as well as its newest additions representing its growth along the Hudson, Broschart said in a statement.
In addition to the selection of a new city logo, Spano has announced he will use another one of the popular designs as the official Yonkers recycling logo.
Submitted by Rondy Marji, the logo features the letter Y designed as a tree with roots. It will be displayed on the citys sanitation equipment and receptacles.
