Yonkers Earns $44K In eBay Sales, Set For Round Two

YONKERS, N.Y. – In the market for a 1990 Mack Fire Truck? Or perhaps you’ve been dying to get your hands on framed poster of John F. Kennedy.

Well you’re in luck.

The City of Yonkers is gearing up for round two of its eBay sales after raking in more than $44,000 from its initial round of bidding, the mayor’s office announced Wednesday.

“This program is a simple way of turning years of excessive spending into significant savings for taxpayers,” Mayor Mike Spano said. “In addition to the revenue generated for Yonkers, the accessibility of selling surplus city-owned assets online provides an opportunity for residents to take part in our city’s fiscal health, while getting a great deal on a great item.”

Last month city officials announced they would begin hawking unwanted goods on YonkersCARStore.com, a site run by eBay, in the hopes of raising a little extra cash.  The city sold more than two dozen items, including 10 city vehicles. The priciest item, a Lincoln Navigator, sold for more than $25,000.

Now, officials are launching the second phase of the sale. Included is a fire truck (bids begin at $5,500), a Panasonic Laptop and a Schwab safe. Bidding closes Saturday, Aug. 4.

Spano said the city plans to unload more than 200 items in the upcoming months as part of the Comprehensive Asset Reduction Schedule meant to reduce city spending.
