YONKERS, N.Y. Downtown Yonkers will have a new look in the fall.
Nearly half a million dollars worth of renovations, including a new clock in Getty Square, improved street lighting and sidewalk improvements, will be completed in the heart of Yonkers thanks to a federal grant, Mayor Mike Spano said Monday.
As part of the plan, expected to be completed in early fall, the Richard Haas murals along Riverdale Avenue and Warburton Avenue at Main Street will also receive enhanced lighting.
These new improvements will add to the vibrancy of the downtown-waterfront business district which continues to become a regional destination for visitors and residents, as well as investors, Spano said in a news release.
Steve Sansone, executive director of the Yonkers Downtown/Waterfront Business Improvement District, said the nearly $500,000, available through a Community Development Block Recovery Grant, provides the area with a big boost.
"This grant infuses desperately needed funds to the downtown Yonkers business district for structural and aesthetic improvements that will help to attract new businesses, visitors, consumers and business clients to improve the overall economic strength of the community," he said.
