McLaughlin served as majority and minority leader of the City Council, and played a prominent role in the creation of the Environmental Policy & Protection Committee in the council, as well as in the creation of its Green Policy Task Force.

“The Yonkers City Council needs a leader who can strengthen the city and its economy, while also advancing environmental protection and improving quality of life. That person is Liam McLaughlin,” said Marcia Bystryn, president of the New York League of Conservation. “Because of his record of accomplishment and vision for an even greener, stronger Yonkers, we are proud to endorse Liam McLaughlin for president of the Yonkers City Council.”

McLaughlin’s environmental record includes creating new parkland and protecting Hudson River waterfront open space, creating the Environmental Policy Coordinator position in Yonkers’ Planning Department and leading the effort to clean up Bronx and Saw Mill Rivers, and implementing LEEDS (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building standards for new developments in Yonkers.
