WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - Police are investigating the death of a teenager who was shot and killed in Westchester.

Members of the Yonkers Police Department were dispatched to a Warburton Avenue residence at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24, where there were reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, police said that they found their victim, 16-year-old Joseph Kuaffo, who suffered from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment, where he was pronounced dead, prompting the investigation into the fatal shooting.

Detectives from the Major Case and Crime Scene Units interviewed witnesses and suspects, and police said that the preliminary investigation determined that the victim was in the residence at the time of the shooting and was struck by one bullet in the chest, which killed him.

A semi-automatic handgun that was allegedly used in the shooting was also recovered.

The case is being actively investigated, police said, though officials stated that the incident “does not appear to be a random event.” No arrests have been made or suspects identified.

Anyone with information regarding the weekend’s fatal shooting have been asked to contact the Yonkers Police Department Detective Division by calling (914) 377-7724. Tips can also be sent anonymously by texting the keyword YPD with the tip to 847411.
