The city wants a contractor to audit the Variable Benefits Fund of Local 628 of the International Association of Fire Fighters, which has been cited for poor records in the past. The filing, which took place July 1, asks the court to order the fund to turn over 2014 spending records, according to lohud.com.
The fund gets money from taxpayers and goes to reimburse firefighters for health care expenses from dental to vision. This dispute stems from the city hiring the Bonadio Group to audit the fund in March and, according to court papers, a four-month unsuccessful bid to get a hold of the necessary paperwork. Local 628 President Barry McGoey said the city acted hastily in taking legal action, according to lohud.com.
