Yonkers Police Probe Possible Gang-Related Motive In Monday Shooting

YONKERS, N.Y. -- The non-lethal shooting of an 18-year-old male Yonkers resident at the intersection of Palisade Avenue and Elm Street on Monday is being investigated as a possible gang-related crime, police officials said Tuesday afternoon.

According to officials, numerous units responded to the area of Palisade Avenue and Elm Street on a report of shots fired at approximately 3:52 p.m. Police found an 18-year-old male with gunshot wounds.

He was taken to a local trauma center, where he is expected to survive injuries.  The victim has not been cooperative with investigators, officials said. 

According to officials, the initial investigation has revealed that the victim was in the area of 49 Palisade Ave. when shots were fired by an "unknown suspect."

Shell casings were recovered at the scene, officials said. 

According to officials, the investigation is ongoing, and extra patrols will be deployed to the area including both uniformed and plain clothes officers.

Officials said the Yonkers Police Department is also working with community outreach groups involved in anti-violence initiatives.
