WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Westchester County man is facing life in prison after pleading guilty to fatally shooting a man in Doyle Park when an attempted armed robbery went awry last year.

On Thursday, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr. announced that 27-year-old Yonkers resident Robert Daniels has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for his role in a May 2016 shooting that left his victim dead.

According to Scarpino, shortly before 9 p.m. on May 31, Huguet was in Doyle Park when Daniels attempted to rob him at gunpoint. The victim refused to turn over any personal property, and Daniels shot him multiple times with a semi-automatic pistol. He then fled the park.

Yonkers police and an ambulance responded to Doyle Park, where the victim was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he would be pronounced dead. A subsequent autopsy performed by the Medical Examiner determined that the victim suffered bullet wounds in his neck and torso, with lacerations to the heart, lung and liver.

Following the shooting, the Yonkers Police Department launched an investigation that led to Daniels’ arrest several days later. He was originally charged with two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of attempted robbery and one count of criminal possession of a weapon.

Daniels is scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday, July 12, where he will face a maximum of 25 years to life in state prison.
