On Monday, New York State Police announced that 32-year-old Omar Sheikh was facing felony charges after being arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated.
According to police, shortly before 5:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, troopers were dispatched to the Yonkers Toll Plaza on I-87 following multiple reports of a disabled vehicle. Upon arrival, they found Sheikh, the driver, in the vehicle and determined that he was intoxicated.
Sheikh was transported to the New York State Police barrack in Tarrytown, where he refused to submit to a breath test to determine his blood alcohol content. During processing, police discovered that Sheikh had multiple prior DWI convictions within the last 10 years.
Police subsequently charged Sheikh with felony counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle. He was turned over to a third party after posting $750 bail. He is due back in City of Yonkers Court on Friday, Feb. 17.
