YONKERS, N.Y. A Yonkers man on the run led police straight to his apartment and a stash of heroin, police said.
Plainclothes members of the Yonkers Police 3rd Precinct Anti-Crime Unit were on patrol at around 10 p.m. Tuesday when police said they saw Santiago Rivera, 28, drop what they said turned out to be two bags of marijuana on the ground.
Apparently recognizing the officers as police, Rivera grabbed his waist in a way that appeared he had a weapon concealed before running into a building at 47 Linden St., police said.
After the officers followed Rivera to his second-floor apartment, they grabbed him as he opened the door with his keys, police said.
A loaded .22 caliber revolver fell out of the Riveras pants, police said, and after police obtained a search warrant, they allegedly found 18 envelopes of heroin on the kitchen table.
Rivera was taken to City Jail where he was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both felonies, as well as fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor.
