Yonkers Firefighters Back At Bargaining Table After Threatened Protest

YONKERS, N.Y. -- Yonkers fire officials, who had threatened to disrupt a speech by Mayor Mike Spano, are back in contract talks with the city, according to a report by lohud.com.

Members of the Yonkers Uniformed Fire Officers Association have been working without a contract or a cost-of-living raise for seven years, the lohud story said.

Firefighters had cited political patronage and the city's rapidly deteriorating infrastructure, among other grievances, as reasons for the planned protest at the site of Spano’s State of the City speech Wednesday, lohud reported.

In his speech, the mayor pointed out that millions have been invested in the city's fire department, including fire trucks and equipment, and plans for a new firehouse, the lohud story said.
