Yonkers Police Det. Lt. Patrick McCormack said that a 9-year-old boy was facing a pair of charges after he was found in possession of the weapon at School 13 on Tuesday.
According to police, shortly before 3:30 p.m., officers from the 3rd Precinct were dispatched to School 13 on McLean Avenue following reports of a possible recovered weapon. Upon arrival, the 9-year-old was placed into custody while police investigated.
McCormack said that the child will be charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds. Due to his age, his name will not be released and he was turned over to his parents. The 9-year-old will be given an appearance ticket to Yonkers Family Court and is due back later this year.
The investigation into Tuesday’s incident at Yonkers School 13 is ongoing.
