Dr. Rohan Wijetilaka, 65, of Manhattan, forfeited $1 million in assets and was fined an additional $1 million for restitution associated with the case, according to lohud.com.
Wijetilaka subjected patients to unnecessary tests and filed fraudulent claims to government and private insurance companies, lohud.com reported.
The federal investigation was launched after local pharmacists complained about the number of narcotic prescription painkillers Wijetilaka prescribed, , according to lohud.com.
