WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - A 24-year-old woman that attacked her sister in Yonkers has pleaded guilty to attempted murder in Westchester County Court.

Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr. announced on Thursday that Yosaura Camilo, who is homeless, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, a class B violent felony.

According to Scarpino, shortly after 8 a.m. on Oct. 13 last year, Camilo’s sister dropped her daughter off at the bus stop and was walking back to her mother’s house on Saratoga Avenue. After opening the front door and entering the lobby of the building, Camilo ambushed her victim with a folding knife.

With the knife in hand, Scarpino said she threatened her victim, stabbing and slashing at her. During the attack, Camilo knocked her victim to the ground and jumped on her, holding her down and continuing to stab her.

Scarpino said that a passerby heard the two screaming, witnessed the attack and called police. Members of the Yonkers Police Department responded to the scene to render aid, and Camilo’s was transported to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx for treatment on injuries to her hands, head, face and abdomen.

Camilo’s victim had to undergo two surgeries and was hospitalized for five days. Camilo was seen fleeing the scene in her car and was arrested the following day in the Bronx. She has been remanded to the Westchester County Jail and is due back in court in October, when she was face up to 25 years in state prison.
