Police: Yonkers Man Driving With Loaded Shotgun

YONKERS, N.Y. – A city man has been arrested after riding around town with a loaded shotgun, police said.

Richard Thompson, 37, of 50 Riverdale Ave., was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, and numerous traffic violations after members of the Yonkers Police Department’s Gang Unit allegedly found a shotgun behind the driver’s seat last week.

Police said Thompson was pulled over in the vicinity of Warburton Avenue after he committed a traffic violation just before 8 p.m. Friday. It was then that officers allegedly saw the barrel of the loaded gun sticking out from the floor of the 1999 Toyota Camry.

Thompson was arrested and taken to city jail. He was arraigned Saturday in Yonkers Criminal Court.
