Shortly after 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, police were dispatched to the vicinity of Warburton and Lamartine Avenue, where there was a reported shooting, Police Sgt. Dean Politopoulos said.
Derrick Jose Ubiles was taken to a local hospital for treatment. When found, he was down on the ground, bleeding heavily with an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen, police said.
Officers immediately rendered aid and called for an ambulance which transported Ubiles to a nearby hospital.
Ubiles was subsequently pronounced dead at the hospital. His identity was initially withheld on Wednesday, until his family could be notified.
Detectives from the Major Case Squad and Crime Scene Unit are actively investigating this incident, interviewing witnesses, canvassing for surveillance video, and processing forensic evidence. Preliminary information yields that the victim may have been targeted.
