Motorist Killed, Police Injured In Yonkers Chase

Updated 3 p.m.

YONKERS, N.Y. – A 28-year-old White Plains man was killed early Saturday morning when his car collided with a Yonkers police car on South Broadway during a chase, police said.

Brandon Turner was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Two Yonkers police officers injured in the crash are still hospitalized, but expected to survive their injuries, police said.

Police patrolling the area around Glenwood Avenue heard what appeared to be gunshots around 1:30 a.m. and then saw a 1999 green Honda Civic driven by Turner flee the scene, police said.

With lights and sirens police tried to pull Turner over, but he refused to stop, police said. Turner then drove “in an unsafe manner” while speeding southbound through the Getty Square area on the northbound side of the street, police said.

Turner's car then collided with a different police car on South Broadway. The two officers inside the car were taken to a local trauma center, police said.

Turner’s relatives told 1010 WINS radio he had been drinking at a cousin’s wedding earlier in the evening and was clearly intoxicated. They expressed remorse about letting him get behind the wheel of the car, according to the report

The Yonkers Police Detective Division investigated a 9-1-1 call about gunshots near Glenwood Avenue during the time but found no crime scene.

Police said the Internal Affairs Division and the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office will investigate the incident. The Yonkers Police Traffic Division will continue to investigate the accident.
