Jereis was originally sentenced when he and his mentee Sandy Annabi were convicted on corruption charges related to a pair of vote flips she made on the council after Jereis had spent nearly $200,000 on her over several years, LoHud reported.
Jereis pleaded guilty to assisting in the preparation of fraudulent tax returns on the day he began his prison term in March. Jereis paid over $400,000 in cash to employees without declaring it with the IRS or paying $61,000 in payroll taxes on the money, according to LoHud.com.
