On Friday morning, a fire broke out on an upper level of an apartment building at 91 Elm St. in Yonkers that quickly spread to an adjacent buildings before firefighters could get the blaze under control.
In total, American Red Cross volunteers have estimated that as many as 73 people may have been displaced, and two of the three buildings have been declared uninhabitable as of noon on Friday afternoon.
The Red Cross and Yonkers Office of Emergency Management have been tasked with helping the displaced residents, as they determine whether or not to set up an emergency shelter while the investigation into the fire continues.
An arson investigation unit is currently on the scene investigating the cause of the blaze. No injuries were immediately reported. Keep following Daily Voice for more information about Friday’s fire in Yonkers as it becomes available.
