Arson Suspected In Three-Building Blaze In Yonkers

Updated at 5:30 p.m.: YONKERS, N.Y. — The Yonkers Fire Department battled what may have been an arson fire that destroyed a four-family residential building and damaged two others on Webster Avenue on Sunday afternoon.

"We have reason to believe it was intentionally set," Deputy Chief John Flynn said.

Firefighters rescued a person from a second-story window of the multifamily home at 103 Webster Ave., he said.

The first call came in at 3:38 p.m., he said. The fire department blocked off the road because of the three-alarm fire.

When firefighters arrived, flames and heavy smoke were coming out of the top of 103 Webster Ave., a house split into four apartments that was completely destroyed. The fire spread to and damaged the buildings at 105 and 107 Webster Ave.

About a dozen fire trucks were on the scene. Smoke filled the neighborhood.

The fire was under control by about 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The scene was at Webster Avenue and Walnut, near Yonkers Avenue.
