Walter E. Brown Jr., 77, Retired Manager DPW, City Of Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. - Walter E. "Corky" Brown Jr. of Yonkers died Aug. 22. He was 77.

Brown was born Nov. 6, 1935, in Yonkers, to Walter and Vilas (Shanley) Brown. He attended Our Lady of the Rosary School graduating in 1950 and also attended Saunders Trade School graduating in June 1954. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1955 and was stationed at the engineer training post at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri and was discharged in 1958. He worked for the City of Yonkers as manager of Department of Public Works, retiring in December 1992. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church.

Brown is survived by his children, Walter E. Brown of Yonkers, Meghan Mays (Thomas) of Yonkers, and Frances Bogardus (John) of Delmar, N.Y.; four grandchildren; brothers, James Brown of Nebraska, Robert "Butch" Brown of Monroe, N.Y.; and sister, Dorothy "Dottie" Sullivan of Clinton. He was predeceased by his wife, Frances.

Calling hours are Monday, Aug. 26 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Ave., Yonkers, NY 10703. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27 at Sacred Heart Church with interment to follow at St. Josephs Cemetery.
