Richard 'Dick' Morrison, Formerly Of Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. – Richard “Dick” Victor Morrison, a former longtime Yonkers resident, died Oct. 22 in Bonita Springs, Fla. He was 97.

He was born Aug. 1, 1915, at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville to Eleanor Sessions Morrison and Lewis Abrams Morrison. Drafted in 1943, Morrison enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific and China until 1946.

After his service, he worked for O.S. Tyson Advertising, where he became executive vice president. The company was later renamed Poppe Tyson Inc. and then D.M.B. & B. He retired from the McManus Group Inc. in 1984.

In 1980, Morrison was named Agency Executive of the Year by the New York chapter of the Business Professional Advertising Association. He was an avid golfer with eight holes-in-one to his credit.

Morrison was known for playing golf year-round, regardless of the weather. His favorite saying was “mind over matter” and his favorite book was Norman Vincent Peale's "The Power of Positive Thinking."

He and his family joined Knollwood Country Club in Elmsford in 1953. Morrison served as president of the country club from 1973 to 1975 and remained an honorary member until his death.

He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 60 years, Jocelyn Keating; a brother, Lewis Morrison; and a sister, Molly Morrison Caulfield. He is survived by three daughters, Sandra (Michael) Latora, of Harrison, Patricia Ericson, of Rolling Hills Estates, Calif., and Molly Trahan, of Lincoln, R.I.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial celebration will be held at a later date. Hodges Funeral Home in Naples, Fla.,  is handling arrangements.
