Raymond D. Travis, 86, Yorktown Heights Resident

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. – Raymond D. Travis, a lifelong resident of Yorktown Heights, died Saturday, Jan. 16. He was 86.

Travis worked as an operating engineer for Peckham Industries in Briarcliff Manor before he retired in 1992. He was a member of IUOE 137, also in Briarcliff Manor. He was born in 1928 in Yorktown Heights to David D. and Nellie Travis. He served in the Navy from 1946-48 and attained the rank of fireman first class. He served on the USS Leyte and received the World War II Victory Medal. He belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Yorktown Heights.

In 1949, he married Elizabeth Scofield in Yorktown Heights. He will be remembered for his love of family, fishing, hunting and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; a daughter JoAnn Haughey, and her husband, William, of Putnam Valley; three grandchildren, Heather Haughey-Pemberton, her husband, Brad, and their son, Finn, of Colorado; William Haughey II, his wife, Heather, and their daughter, Abigale, of Mahopac; and Betsy Pulick, her husband, Joseph, and daughters Emma and Lia of Putnam Valley; two sisters, Nellie Kenny of Florida and June Marks of Yorktown Heights; his sisters-in-law, Jane Travis of Peekskill, Catherine Travis of Cortlandt Manor and Jane Travis of Buchanan; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by five brothers.

Calling hours are Sunday, Jan. 24, from 1-4 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home, 2104 Saw Mill River Road, Yorktown Heights. A funeral service will be held Sunday at 3:30 p.m., also at the funeral home. Interment will be held at a later date.
