Mary Brenish, 91, Formerly Of Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. – Mary Homa Brenish, a former Yonkers resident, died July 10 in Elizabethtown, N.Y. She was 91. 

Brenish worked at St. Joseph's Hospital and at a carpet factory in Yonkers for many years. She also worked as a housekeeper until she retired. 

Born July 24, 1920, in Czechoslovakia, she was the daughter of Dimitri Homa and Pearl Mikuliak. Brenish emigrated to the U.S. through Ellis Island in 1939. A devout Catholic, she enjoyed attending social events at St. Nicholas of Myra Greek Catholic Church in Yonkers with her husband, Peter. In her later years, Brenish enjoyed going to Mass and church dinners at St. Elizabeth's Roman Catholic Church in Elizabethtown.

She is survived by a daughter, Marion (Randy); two sons, Michael Brenish and George Brenish; a sister, Susan Zaloudova; a brother, Dmitri Homa; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter Brenish, in 2010; a son, Peter M. Brenish, in 1987; and a sister, Anna Yurista. 

Calling hours are from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Whalen and Ball Funeral Home in Yonkers. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
