Maria DeJesus Gualdino, 93, Former Yonkers Resident

YONKERS, N.Y. – Maria DeJesus Gualdino, formerly of Yonkers, died Thursday, Jan. 28 in Leiria, Portugal. She was 93.

She was born in Corredoura, Portugal, on April 22, 1922. She grew up in Portugal and in 1966, she moved to the U.S. and settled in Yonkers. For many years, she worked at a local factory, and later for the Hudson View Nursing Home in Yonkers. She loved to cook and was famous for her colorful knitted blankets.

She is survived by daughters Assuncao Ferreira (Jose) and Margarida Larkin (Kevin), four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters-in-law.

She was predeceased in 2004 by her husband, Antonio Jorge; one brother and two sisters-in-law.

A viewing will be held Friday from 9-11 a.m. at Dorsey Funeral Home, 14 Emwilton Place, Ossining, with a funeral Mass following at 11:30 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church, Ossining. Burial will follow immediately at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
