Madeline Manning, 68, ESL Teacher, of Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. – Madeline Butler Manning of Yonkers died July 10. She was 68. 

Manning was born Dec. 10, 1943, in Waco, Texas, to Maurice and Mary Butler. She worked as an English as a second language teacher and junior high school administrator for the New York City Board of Education for more than 35 years. 

She received a bachelor's degree in Spanish literature and a master's degree in English as a second language from Columbia University. Manning also earned a master's degree in educational administration from Tuoro College. Manning was a 22-year member of the choir at St. John the Baptist Church in Yonkers. 

She is survived by her husband, William; a sister, Mary (William) Squiers; two nephews and a niece. 

Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at F. Ruggiero and Sons Funeral Home in Yonkers. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at St. John the Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in White Plains.
