YONKERS, N.Y. -- Josephine "Josie" Marie Schutty, of Yonkers, died at at the age of 89.
She was born on May 2, 1925, in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan. She was the eldest daughter of Charles and Susan McCann Garvin of Tyrone County, Ireland, and the sibling of three brothers, Michael, Charles and Thomas and four sisters, Margie, Eileen, Anna and Patricia.
Schutty met her husband of 62 years, John F. Schutty, Jr., when he was stationed briefly in New York City in 1945 during his World War II military service. They were married in New York on Jan. 11, 1947. She will be best remembered as a loving sister, wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her daughter, Joanne Schutty McLane, her son, John, her son-in law Robert McLane and two grandchildren.
Her husband and infant brother, Charles, predeceased her.
Viewing will be held in David J. Hodder & Son F.H. on Monday Feb. 2, 2015 from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Barnabas Church on Tuesday at 10:45 a.m.. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
