YONKERS, N.Y. – Joan Ray of Yonkers died Dec. 17. She was 68.
She was born Joan Murphy on July 8, 1944, in Yonkers, where she was raised and educated. She attended Blessed Sacrament Academy.
Ray worked as a case social worker at Hudson View Nursing Home (Palisade Garden) for more than 40 years and retired in 2008.
On May 13, 1961, she married Edward Ray in Sacred Heart Church. He died on Dec. 15, 2006. Joan Ray was an avid bowler, belonging to many leagues.
She is survived by her three children, Deborah (Fred) Semp, Colleen (Andrew) Perillo and David J. (Eileen) Ray, all of Yonkers. She also is survived by her eight grandchildren, Anthony, Christopher, John, Shannon, Danielle, Brian, Nicholas and Andrew; and her special dog friend, Maggie.
Visiting hours will be at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian burial will be in St. John the Baptist Church at 9:30 a.m. Friday. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
