YONKERS, N.Y. - Edmund J. Devaney, Sr., a resident of Yonkers since 1971, died July 21. He was 99.

Devaney was born Feb. 23, 1914, in Lenox, Mass., to Patrick and Nellie Devaney. He retired from the New York Police Department in 1974 as a sergeant, after 33 years of service. He served for three years in the U.S. Army from January 1943 to October 1945. He was awarded the French Croix de Guerre by President Charles De Gaulle of France, for action in the liberation of France.

Devaney is survived by son, Edmund, Jr.; two grandchildren; and nieces. He was predeceased his wife, Margaret; and son, Peter.

Calling hours are Tuesday, July 23  from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at F. Ruggiero & Sons, Inc. - 732 Yonkers Ave., Yonkers, NY 10704. (914) 375-1400. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 24 at St. John the Baptist Church with interment to follow at St. Ann Cemetery in Lenox, Mass.
