Bryan Purdy, 57, Former Yonkers Carpenter

YONKERS, N.Y. – Bryan C. Purdy, formerly of Yonkers, died Jan. 8 in Carmel, N.Y., after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 57.

He was born Nov. 15, 1955, in Las Cruces, N.M., to Raymond J. and Virginia Winstanley Purdy. He graduated from Yonkers High School and worked as a self-employed carpenter.

Purdy moved from Yonkers to Brewster, N.Y., in 1990. He enjoyed music, astronomy, space, sci-fi, jet planes and pizza, his family said.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Regina T. Parrish Bendix; four children: Joshua Purdy of Henderson, Nev.; Robert Purdy of Stroudsburg, Pa.; Sarah E. Bendix of Brewster N.Y.; and Gerard R. Bendix Jr. of Mahopac; two brothers: Robert Purdy of Brewster, and Clifford Purdy of Yonkers; three sisters: Karen Ratajack and Arlene Steinhardt, both of Brewster; and Diana Halloway of Rapid City, S.D.; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at New Life Church in Patterson, N.Y. Flower deliveries may be made from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Beecher Funeral Home in Brewster is handling arrangements.
