YONKERS, N.Y. -- Albert M. Cicalo, "Seeds," a lifetime Yonkers resident died at Calvary Hospital at the age of 84.
For 25 years, Cicalo was a member of the Yonkers Police Department, retiring as a detective first class. He was one of the original emergency squad members.
As a young man, he played catcher in baseball's minor leagues and soon after he enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War.
During his tenure in the Police Department and in his retirement years, he was very active in the community. He helped found the North Yonkers Boys Club and was very involved with local politics.
He was vice president of the Yonkers PBA, past president of the Italian City Club, chairman of the Columbus Day Celebration Committee and the Heart Ball.
After he retired, he worked for Park Lincoln Mercury. Also, he was an active member of the Rauso Post.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marjorie (Bisaccia) Cicalo; his children, John Cicalo, Michael Cicalo and Kathy Maher, and her husband, Ed,; his grandchildren, J.J. Cicalo and Eddie-Joe Maher.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph, Carmine and Angelo Cicalo; and his sisters, Frances Chiaverini, Fay Strobel, Millie Cicalo and Mary Di Nobile.
Visitation is Thursday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Sinatra Memorial Home, 601 Yonkers Ave. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at Mount Carmel Church.
The family would like to extend special gratitude to the doctors and staff of St. John's Hospital, St. Joseph Rehabilitation, especially Ed, and Calvary Hospital.
