YONKERS, N.Y. Yonkers is looking for a fresh, new look. And the city needs your help in narrowing down the options.
After nearly four months of collecting candidates for the citys new logo in the YoLogo design contest, officials are counting on voters to determine the finalists. Beginning Monday, residents can visit the City of Yonkers Facebook page and Like the design they want to see as the citys new official logo.
We have received some great designs from residents taking pride in our city by showcasing Yonkers diversity, history and beauty, Mayor Mike Spano said in a news release. We are now inviting all residents to give their feedback on the design that best represents our city as its official logo.
Launched in May, the YoLogo Contest asked residents to come up with ideas for a logo that were reflective of the city's rich history, culture and natural beauty.
Residents answered the call, submitting 27 potential designs that ranged from a sketch of the Yonkers pier to an outline of City Hall to a dove floating above green and black lettering that reads Yonkers: The beginning of a new day.
Voters will have until Oct. 5 to Like their favorite design on Facebook. The three designs that receive the most votes will be presented to the City Council at its Oct. 23 meeting, where the final design will be chosen.
While officials say they will continue to use the Yonkers seal, the new logo will be displayed on the citys website, social media sites and many other promotional items.
