In a press conference Monday afternoon, Mayor Mike Spano declared Yonkers in a State of Emergency, urging non-emergency or unauthorized vehicles off the roads between 9 p.m., Monday and 7 a.m., Tuesday.

Spano also will activate the City’s Emergency Operations Center at 28 Wells Ave. at 4 p.m. Monday, staffed with all essential personnel throughout the duration of the storm.

All necessary precautions are being taken by the city to assure the safety of residents due to the anticipated snowfall, Spano said. Vehicles are prohibited from parking on designated snow emergency routes.

City of Yonkers DPW crews will be working 12 or 16 hour shifts, manning 22 large plows and salters; 10 small plows and salters; five front-end loaders (heavy tractors); and two large salters.
