According to Yonkers Detective Lt. Patrick McCormack, at 9:50 p.m., a 38-year-old female Yonkers resident, who has subsequently been identified as the child's foster mother, brought the 2-year-old child to St. John's Riverside Hospital.
McCormack said doctors tried to perform livesaving techniques, but the child died at 10:20 p.m.
Additionally, police received a call on Sunday night from a doctor at St. John’s Riverside Hospital in regard to the boy’s death, as is standard procedure.
According to McCormack, initial investigations show the child had an extensive medical history with numerous illnesses. Therefore, the investigation is being considered an open death at this time.
McCormack said the investigation will remain open pending the results of the autopsy and ongoing investigation.
The police will not be releasing the location of the residence or names of the child or foster mother to give the family a chance to notify next of kin.
According to multiple reports, the family resides on Ridge Avenue.
The Westchester District Attorney's office is working with the Yonkers police in their investigation, spokesman Lucian Chalfen said.
According to Chalfen, an autopsy will be conducted, possibly today, to determine the cause of death.
