The day was first observed in 1993 and is now a nationally recognized day by Congress.
According to the Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work Day Foundation, the purpose of the day is to help children "discover the power and possibilities associated with a balanced work and family life," along with, "providing them an opportunity to share how they envision the future and begin steps toward their end goals in a hands-on and interactive environment."
For Sasiann Shell from Yonkers, taking her two daughters (8 and 16) to work is a heartwarming experience she takes advantage of whenever she can.
"It's beneficial for them, because they learn a lot of different responsibilities and they can decide, while they are in school, what they want to do when they grow up," she said.
Though her daughters did not come to work with her on Thursday, Shell pulled out a letter her younger daughter had written her just yesterday while with her in her office.
It read: "Dear mom, did you know that your (sic) the best in the world and your (sic) so kind to me. But your (sic) the nicest person in the world and your (sic) also the nicest person in the whole family."
