YONKERS, N.Y. -- Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano was out and about Thursday helping Yonkers residents cope with the inclement weather.

The mayor, who declared a Level 1 snow emergency for the City Wednesday night, was present and active on the City's Facebook and Twitter pages, posting photos and updates of his activities.

The mayor was snapped helping police officers push a County Police vehicle out of a snow drift, and checking in on the Yonkers DPW Service Center.

The City deployed 100 DPW employees for the storm on Thursday, working 12 or 16 hour shifts, operating 25 large plows and salters; 15 small plows and salters; five heavy tractors and two large salters.

Spano also gave a press conference early Thursday morning in the thick of the first part of the snowfall.

The City has been very active via Facebook, responding to posts from concerned residents and posting frequent updates.

Yonkers resident Arlene Connolly O'Neill posted on the City's Facebook page, "Mayor Mike and staff, thanks for always keeping our city so well-informed. It is greatly appreciated! Stay warm, everyone!"
