The Yonkers Marathon and Half-Marathon, the second oldest marathon in the world, will begin at 8 a.m. and draw more than 1,000 participants.
The USA Track and Field-certified marathon runs the standard 26.2 mile length, and is a qualifier for the larger Boston Marathon.
According to the website, the double loop course is run in the direction of traffic on the streets of Yonkers and is not completely closed to vehicular traffic.
The route briefly runs through Hastings-on-Hudson as well, and similar traffic rules will apply.
Recreation staff and volunteers will be located at intersections throughout the course. The official clock runs for 5 hours, until 1:00 p.m.
In light of the bombing at the 2013 Boston Marathon, NYCRUNS, the organizer of the marathon, is taking a more aggressive approach to security.
Paul Nelson, spokesman for NYC RUNS, said, "In light of the tragic and cowardly attack at the Boston Marathon, we are implementing security procedures including limiting access to the starting area and baggage. In addition, all baggage must be in a clear bag that NYCRUNS will provide."
